What is Paint by Numbers?

Paint by numbers is a paint style that got popularized in the 1950’s in American households. It’s simply an easy way for beginners (and experienced) painters alike to create masterpieces without prior painting experience. Most first timers are shocked at the outcome and how great it turns out. Paint by numbers is a easy simple as following the three steps below…

Step 1: Match to Paint to the Canvas Numbers

Find a flat surface and bring a small cup of water, your paints, canvas, and brushes. Open the lid paints and wet the brush. Be sure not to leave the lids opened for long or you may dry out the paint. It may also be helpful to bring along a magnifying glass and extra paint if you have it, as sometimes you may want to give the painting extra layers and texture by thickening the paint blotches.

Step 2: Start Filling in the Lines with Paint

It's best to fill in all the sections with the same colors first, before moving onto the next set of colors, while occasionally using the image instructions as a guideline to ensure no colored areas are missed. Dabble lightly at first to ensure you have enough paint to finish all the areas. Afterwards repaint some of the lighter colored areas with the remaining paint.

Step 3: Admire your Masterpiece

Now that you have finished, you can hang it inside a glass frame or buy the already framed canvas variant to hang it easy on your wall. Rinse and repeat for another masterpiece and don't forget to submit your picture review so we can admire it!

This depends on what you intend to do with your painting after you are finished. If you want to hang it on the wall we recommend buying the Framed or No frame option. This is because the DIY frame is generally a bit difficult to stretch onto the frame correctly leaving it a bit loose on the frame. If you do not have an existing glass frame that you can insert the finished painting into, we recommend getting the framed versions as you can hang it on the wall as soon as you are done.
